BUILDING AND ZONING
Permits are required when buildings or other structures are erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, improved, removed, converted, demolished, or changed in use or occupancy.  Additionally, if you are operating an in-home occupation, a permit is required for that as well.  There are also a number of new exceptions when building permits are no longer required; however a zoning permit is required. Residents are encouraged to call or stop by the Township office if they have any questions about their proposed project.  The function of the Building Code Official, and the Zoning Officer is to enforce Township Building Codes and Ordinances along with Zoning Regulations to ensure public health, safety, and welfare through construction built to a national standard.

Presently, the Township of South Hanover is enforcing Act 45, the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) adopted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
